Hannover

Hannover – cosmopolitan and colorful
Hannover is cosmopolitan and home to diverse cultures. To reinforce this, Hannover, like other cities around the world, has signed political declarations on climate protection, peace, and justice. These include Agenda 21, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the UN resolution “2030 Agenda – Shaping Sustainability at the Local Level,” which was adopted on March 17, 2016. Achieving the global sustainability goals requires the involvement of all local, national, and international forces. These include international networks and alliances such as the European Climate Alliance with Indigenous Peoples of the Rainforests, which Hannover joined in 1999. Hannover has also joined the "Mayors for Peace" initiative.
Hannover's city partnerships with Blantyre in Malawi and Hiroshima in Japan, as well as the European cities of Poznań, Leipzig, Perpignan, Rouen, and Bristol, can play an important role in this. Together with their residents, solutions can be sought.
The international EU project “aware&fair – City Games and campaign for local response to the Millennium Development Goals” has demonstrated how these challenges can be tackled together. Through participation, dialogue, listening, exchange, and learning from each other. A project in dialogue and on an equal footing with representatives of the cities of Poznań, Blantyre, Bristol, and the Climate Alliance, with local, national, and international non-governmental organizations and cultural actors. Everyone gained new inspiration and a new appreciation for the cooperation with Blantyre.
